It isn't really a problem - just a curiosity. I might even learn something. Always good to learn. Yes? Does anyone else use ESET as a virus scanner? Maybe you'd know.
When we installed ESET, we set it to do a full scan every Tuesday. This it did for a long while. Then it suddenly switched to Wednesday and did its scan that day for some weeks. Finally, yesterday, it switched to Thursday. Has this happened to anyone else who uses ESET?
I can only guess at one possibility. I don't know what you'd think. A time or two, I have asked ESET to do an extra full scan. Is it possible that, in doing that, I caused it to lose track of its regular time and re-adjust itself? I would re-check the scheduling and see if it still says Tuesday but I cannot find the schedule - yet.
The other puzzle: Windows Defender - the program that came with Windows 7 - acts as though it does not like ESET. Sounds silly, I know. But here is what it does. First it updates its definitions every Tuesday. Fine there. Then, it updates again the day after ESET does its full scan. Full scan on Tuesday? WD updates on Wednesday. Full scan on Wednesday - update WD on Thursday. And today's scan yesterday) it updated again.
Weird? Just to satisfy my curiosity, I hope someone has an explanation.
Last, about today's WD update. It was described as blocking spyware and "unwanted software". I am trying very hard to trust that "unwanted software" is malware and not programs that it thinks should not be on my computer because it doesn't like them i.e. ESET.

I suspect that is a result of me having to remove all the SIZE junk stuff that appeared in it when I first posted it. I had to remove that. As a matter of fact, I am getting another large empty space here for some reason.

I can read it now. Before it was full of code and was unreadable. I have used Eset in the past. It didn't do any of that for me. As for Windows Defender, if it was updated,, it wouldn't need to be re-updated so often. Something isn't right. I can't say what though. I use Avast! now and I like it better than Eset.
I just retired someone's XP pc with NOD32, I'll pick it up in a couple of days, but why are you running both WD and ESET?
I will appreciate it. To answer your question, WD came with the computer and, as you know, cannot be removed. They say it can be disabled but (for me) that would be a job for the IT man who takes care of my computer. If I am going to pay him, I should trust him. He knows much more than and he is good at his job. He does keep things running smoothly.
That said, the second half of my question does relate. I have read that WD and ESET scan different things and do not conflict. Yet WD does seem to do something rather strange as I indicated. I want to talk with my IT man but I first wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience. If yes, I have solid ground for a serious talk. If not, perhaps it is just my imagination. I'll still mention it but not demand anything.

Aha! So, while I was cleaning out that junk, you could still see it with all its mess. I think I now know what causes that stuff. If I am right, it will not happen again.
I had Avasti for a while and I also liked it. When I bought my new computer last year, the person who set it up and who still keeps it running smoothly felt that ESET does more. Of course, it also cost more. Avasti is free. Or, one version of it is, anyway. I decided to go along with ESET and give it a one-year trial. A lot on a computer I cannot do but I can, I think, judge virus scanning programs. I think!
Thanks for letting me know that ESET didn't act like that for you. That is what I want to find out before I call the IT man. I want to be able to talk sensibly - at least!
