This is my 2nd laptop (I've had it for 3 years) that has overheating issues. When my laptop overheats, it randomly shuts down.
I think I making a mistake by often purchasing laptops. Especially since it remains stationary like a desktop. And the only reason I dont buy a desktop is because its too big and I dont have the room for it.
It's great. I use it with the fans off. Still great.

What are you running?
I've never had overheating issues even when compiling lots of software and playing games.
I do know people who bought laptops back in 2003ish with desktop processors in them. Those things had a tendency to overheat (the palmrest actually melted on one of my friend's computers).
If you're in a dusty environment everything will eventually overheat, laptops are especially susceptible as their heatsinks are small compared to a desktop. Do a search of the forum, it's been discussed many times.
There are tons of small desktop computers out that don't cost $3k for the base model and don't have Xeons, ECC memory, and dual GPUs. Why not point out some of those, as opposed to something that, given the OP is posting this question on this forum, is almost without question complete overkill?
I have an all in one and have had for years and it has never over heated or randomly shut down for any reason.
Neither of my laptops have ever given me any issue with being too hot either but we have them on a stand that allows air flow all around them.
Isn't that everyone's answer to an overheating laptop, an overpriced computer in a can?
