It's funny, I was just talking about this with my brother when we were trying to trouble-shoot the issues I was having with my laptop. He was suggesting to avoid his laptop like the plague after April 8th due to the possibility of attacks. That is if you don't upgrade to 7.

We have Vista and not about to move to 7 or 8. From other questions though, it appears 7 is more popular than Windows 8.
I've used Vista and 7 and those are much easier to navigate than 8. I am not sure how good 8 is on tablets, smartphones and two in ones but it hard to navigate in PC mode. My mother has one and it is annoying and this comes from someone who used the later Vista that was debugged.

I have an older desktop as my secondary computer that I still run XP on and I'll continue to do so until it no longer functions. My main computer runs Windows 7 which is my favorite Operating System of all time. Probably won't get a new computer until Windows 9 is released which rumor has it will again be geared more towards mouse & keyboard users when installed on desktops or laptops.

I just upgraded my desktop PC from XP to Windows Vista Ultimate.

Microsoft supports Vista until Nov 2017.

So far, Vista seems a lot like XP, but it has some new features that may take time to get used to.

The Vista install took many hours to complete, since I also had to download and install Vista Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2, plus over 100 additional security updates from Microsoft.

Everything seems to be working well so far.

I will also be keeping XP installed on one of my older laptops in case I find a need for it.

Forgot about this, glad I saw the topic. Are they supposed to shut off the update service? As of right now it works, I have an old XP machine I keep around in case of emergencies.

Just looked at some site stats, about 10% are still using XP but that would probably be higher than most sites. Going to get interesting over the next few days, there has to be a bunch of exploits just waiting to be released.

I assume that it will work for a while, but no new updates.

Vista takes forever to load compared to XP. If anything, I hope to upgrade to 7 one of these days.
