they just upped the ante at the local compusa, they now have people on the street corners with signs of "up to 30% off" almost at that 50% as to where I will loot them of cheap pen drives, and equipment lol

Me too. There was a CompUSA about two blocks from my house and Fryes is all the way across town. I sometimes found BETTER deals at CompUSA than I did at Fryes and it was always so close.

I was shopping at CompUSA in the 90's before the whole online bust, plus I just liked going to CompUSA during lunch because I am a tech geek. Oh well, it was good while it lasted, economies evolve right?
I've worked in IT since 1998 and I love shopping online.

The Fry's model is best of breed IMO, they have everything and a very knowledge staff. My wife and I can literally stay there for like 3-4 hours.

My question is how in the world has Circuit City stayed alive?
Fry's is OK in a pinch; I do like browsing there. Circuit City stays alive I think because of great loss leader sales.

I never enjoyed my experience at a CompUSA store. I really did not care for them. I'm a Best Buy kinda guy anyway. CompUSA stores in my area were bland and boring.

I've been shopping at Best Buy since it was called Sound of Music up in the Twin Cities, and I do think they've really gone downhill in some ways. But I still shop there for certain things. Not computer-related stuff, though, mostly stereo and TV-related stuff. And not cables. The overhead at BB for cables is a tad high.
