On my previous computers, I could do something that I do not seem to be able to do now. I could pre-type a couple of paragraphs into an email document and minimize that. Then, after bringing up a web page where I wanted to enter this typed bit (a forum page, for example), I could maximize my email and type from it to the final site. Not copy/paste. Sometimes something doesn't copy/paste rightly. So, I would push this pre-typed copy to the side of the final spot and type off what I was seeing. If I try that now, the pre-typed copyimmediately minimizes itself.

Does anyone know how to do this? Or, will Windows 7 just not do it? Maybe a trick of Thunderbird that refuses to do it? Thanks.

It's not that it minimizes itself, it's just in a window that's overlapping another window, I would assume. Instead of having the windows maximized, make them "windowed" (middle button at the top right) and arrange them so that you can see them both.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, then maybe someone else can help.

I can't imagine how copy and paste would not work when copying text only objects...retyping paragraphs seems overly wasteful to me.

I see what you are saying. See if the forum page will shrink enough to let the other sit beside it. I can try that.

As for copy/paste, I think you have seen those posts that have "SIZE" scattered around them? I found that typing something at Thunderbird and then doing copy/paste to CD always left those. Then I had to Edit and clean them up. So, I stopped doing the copy/paste and tried just typing a copy.

Thanks. I'll see if I can shrink the CD page next time.. I can type copy the way it's been doing but that would be faster.

In Windows 7 and 8 you can use the Windows key + Right or Left arrows to dock a window to the right or left side of the screen. So you could click on one window and then Win+Right, then the other window then Win+Left, to dock the both to the edges of the screen. You can then use Win+Up to restore them (or restore them by hand with the maximize button on the window).

I know what you mean, that's a formatting issue with Thunderbird. There are addons that relieve this:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thu...-plain-text-2/

This one adds a little menu item to right click that says "copy plain text" so you only get the text, not the formatting or the tags. At least that's what I gather from the app, I haven't used it and don't use Thunderbird so YMMV
