This. Norton is by far the best antivirus program I ever used. I used MacAfee for several years until it hijacked my browser and kept forcing me to use Yahoo repeatedly. I kept resetting it back to Google, then a couple of days later, it would go right back to Yahoo. I finally got disgusted with it, uninstalled it, and installed Norton. It's never given me a problem and has successfully blocked a few Trojans and spyware. Also, beware of free antivirus programs, especially Avast. They will repeatedly harass you to upgrade and hit you with all sorts of ads. It's not worth the trouble, IMO.
Norton had a bad rep a few years ago but if people like it now, it may have caught up. I started with it but ended up with Avast. I have not had any harassment from them at all.
I hate Norrton, it makes computer slow. I use and recommend Malware and I would uninstall all others.
First, Norton does not make your computer slow. It has one of the lightest footprints of any AV I tried and I've tried most.
Second, if all you have is something for malware you aren't protected from a lot of things you should be.

Another misinformed user. Norton is not a bloated pig.

And #3 on the list.
Get with the times, people. I'm guessing you used Norton a few years ago (five or more) and found it to be as you describe, or you've read a forum where some "expert" has said these things.
Let's straighten this out.
Norton was a bloated pig and a resource hog. Was being the key word. The program was completely rewritten a few years ago and even though I had stopped using it for all the stated reasons I decided to try it again because everything I was trying was crap. I decided to try it because all the reviews were placing it at #3 or above in their ratings.
I've been using it ever since. All computers, tablets, and phones. It is completely unobtrusive and only scans when the computer is idle. Stop to go to the bathroom and it will run while you're gone. Come back and move the mouse and it stops. Very efficient and very light.
Is Verizon Internet Security Suite (VISS) reputable?
VISS uses McAfee, so the answer is; No. Go to Amazon and order Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities. Set each one to run daily and you will have no problems.
Why would any consumer pay for an anti-virus program when there are so many quality free solutions out there?
Ignorance. A new computer I was setting up yesterday, comes with McAfee already installed on a free trial. When the trial runs out, they don't know what to do, so they pay to extend it.
I use microsoft security essentials (Free) and malewarebytes (25 bucks for three machines). Seems to work fine. I used Norton in the past but it was expensive and seemed to be a resource hog. (too much interaction with the program too- always bugging me about things)
