You'd figure that Sony would have learned its lesson the last time it was hacked. Maybe audit what they were doing, how data was stored, etc. But no, despite the public shaming and customer distrust they earned they haven't learned a thing.

At least this time it wasn't the general public that lost data, just Sony and it's employees it seems.
I think there is more to this Sony story, considering Microsoft to be their rival and have their customers taken away by Sony (*hint hint* Xbox Live). It's just a thought, but it wouldn't be surprising if Microsoft was involved. I mean, Apple has been and still is involved in numerous anti-trust cases, including the recent LAUSD scandal, as well as manipulating the prices for their iPods (I bet Warner Music Group was paid well, too).
Anyway, despite Sony getting hacked all the time, I have nothing to worry about it, since I don't buy for a membership and I buy my games (if ever) physically. What do I have to lose? In addition, I can use memory cards to back-up my data, so even with a lost account, I might lose ... what? My trophies?
Sony was stupid, the allowed one high ranking system administrator have unrestricted access to the entire network, once the hackers hacked this one account, they could do anything they wanted. Most larger corporations limit the access so no one person or account has unlimited access to the network / servers on the network. This way damage is limited to what the one account has access to.
