Remember when Apple came out with the iMac colorful computer that did not have a floppy drive? I remember the shock of "how dare they not include a floppy!" I was shocked to see you can still buy a floppy drive today!
Just picked up a 15" Pro and not having a optical drive is fine... I got an external BR for like $40 to rip BR movies... that's all I need it for anyway.
Soon we'll all be shocked by the extinction of HDD in favor of SSD.
The thing I'm surprised the laptop I bought less than a year ago still has is an ethernet port.
I know most business oriented laptops still have them, but mine isn't one of them. I can't see your average person having much, if any, use for it.
I'm actually glad that's not the case...yet.
I prefer ethernet whenever applicable. Sure, you're not going pull out your bright yellow cat5 and look for a jack in the coffee shop or Panera. But I was kinda let down when I had to use a Thunderbolt port to network my MBP. Sort of felt like I was regressing back to the 90's with a 'dongle' for the PCMCIA network card.

At my last job. One client was on its way to zero clients only. Essentially a monitor with KB/Mouse connected to it, and it connects to a VDI farm.
I recall when the first computers started including 8" then 5.25" then 3.5" drives. The first computer I ever owned was programmed with toggle switches and paper tape.....
I wasn't shocked when floppy discs went away. We had 100meg external zip drives at the time...
I was most shocked when I saw on the news a few years ago that the last company that made them finally discontinued production. I was surprised someone still made the disks.
Zip drives were an alternative, but just couldn't compete with CD-Rs and RWs. And then there were the ones with problems: when the drive would fail, it clipped the corner off the disk, rendering all the data on it dead.
