My Dell Inspiron 15 has been pretty good as far a a cheap laptop. However, starting last week, the Wifi has been off and on . At first I thought it was U-verse as the phone was dead as well. I rebooted the modem and everything seemed fine. Now, it seems that the wifi will be fine then I loose connection. Now the wifi indicator on the desktop still states I am connected but nothing happens and then says that I have no connection. I have to disconnect from the modem and then reconnect and then it seems to work okay. I would think that it is U-verse problem ; however, wife's Mac mini doesn't seem to do this . It is strange as this was never a problem until last week when everything went off. I don't know if this is just my Dell's problem or U-verse. I really would like to get U-verse out here as I feel I am paying too much for their service to have this problem. However, perhaps something happened to my Dell that is causing this off and on again problem. Ideas???

I have had strange problems form time to time. If the problem is in the computer I would use a restore point before the problem and restore the computer. You will not lose any data. Any program updates will be lost so you will have to download them again.

I don't think the phone would go out at the same time if it was the computer. I've had the same issue with u-verse, had a tech out, tried some fixes I found online, just got a new modem and have my fingers crossed.

Got neighbors? Do the neighbors have a new baby... or a new wifi router?

Thanks to all of you that responded. I repped you. I will try some of these solutions. I am really thinking that it is U-verse. After their promotion rate expired, I am unhappy with what I am paying for landline long distance and fiber optic. Perhaps I need to look at other options.

It happens to me also, and the weird part is it happens almost at the exact time of the day. 5:30 AM, and then roughly around 2:30 PM. Like you say no one else in the house is affected but me. I brought this up in another thread, which kinda pointed to a crappy wifi router. Can't afford a better one as yet, so I just deal with it.

Your modem or router needs replacing. Time Warner gave me a new one free since I "lease."

Since getting our new modem, the internet doesn't go off and stay off until we reboot the modem. But now it's going off briefly, over and over, (off a minute/on a minute/off/on etc) about once per day, for maybe a half hour. I'd switch to xfinity but I hear their customer satisfaction is even worse so I'm not sure.

I love my Chromebook except that it requires WiFi. As soon as I get up I check that the blue light is on on my WiFi as that indicates that it is working. Because I like to use my Chromebook after my morning routine. If the blue light isn't on unplug the Wi Fi 1st then the modem. wait 2 minutes, plug in the modem, wait 7 minutes, then plug in the Wi Fi and pray.
