I use a laptop connected to a cheap widescreen monitor for work every day. I also use a wireless keyboard and mouse along with it. Have had this setup for years.

That's a very common setup. I'm typing this on a laptop plugged into my work station with dual monitors, etc. At home I will often plug the laptop into a TV or a regular monitor. The monitors the OP is talking about are designed to be fully portable and often powered by the laptop itself through the USB port. Some of them are also touch screens. It basically allows you to setup an extended monitor setup while on the go and/or use one of these for display during a meeting. Can be good for the right business application/work environment, but pretty useless for the average user.
NJGOAT explained why I need these portable monitors. I live in my minivan and I get FREE 100+Mbps internet. But I have to bring a laptop. ... And I love using dual monitors... Nuff said !!!

Yeah man, paying no rent, I live at libraries during the day. I wander throughout the suburbs going to various libraries and I bring in a foldable cargo wagon to carry all of my stuff. At the Berwyn Library, the Library Manager didn't like that I brought in a Best Buy Insignia 23" PC monitor / LCD / HDTV as a 2nd monitor to my laptop. But at another library with a great selection of CS and game development books, I saw a guy use a 2nd portable monitor with no complaints from the Library.
