What is going on here? (CD, laptop, sounds, cleaning)

My laptop CD Player/Burner has been acting most temperamental. I can insert a prerecorded CD and it will play fine. But when I insert the same CD later it tells me that there is no CD inserted OR that the inserted disc is blank. I can try and try and try and I get the same thing occurring. THEN, I may try later and the same CD IS recognized and plays. This is most frustrating to say the least. What is going on here?

It could be that CD Player/Burner is dying, and you may have to replace one.
