My computer showed it was charging but the battery percentage was draining. I tried a docking station and a plug but nothing worked. Rebooted but that didn’t work either. The battery drained to 0 and computer shut off. I was able to turn it back on and then the battery charged back up to 100% within a few hours. This only happened once but a few days later they gave me a new battery. Then a few weeks later the same thing happened again. Is it the motherboard? Why does it drain to nothing but says it charging but then starts charging again after the battery dies?
Are you using the same/one charger?
Is charger directly connected to the laptop or to a docking station.
Is the charger the correct charger to use on a docking station?
Some of the models use the same Watt charger for the dock and directly to the laptop but some do require a more powerful (higher Watt) charger to be used with the dock. Most cases, the weaker charger may still power on the dock but it would not charge the battery or provide proper power to all peripherals, etc.
Since the same thing happened with two different batteries, hard to suspect just the battery.
On the software side, I would check for updates from the vendor, more specifically, BIOS, chipset and power management software updates.
If the laptop uses a removable type battery, I normally do not keep it on the laptop if I am going to be using the laptop primarily on the dock or AC connected to the laptop. Even though the very recent laptop come with more sophisticated chargers, they still heavily rely on the vendors power management utility to keep the battery charged properly, or trickle the charge or completely bypass it if it is full. BIOS could also play an important role if had issues with it and a newer version was release to resolve the issue.
Also check for critical driver/BIOS updates every 3-6 months, especially the first 2 years after buying it new.
