Actually I disagree. Let’s say you have a MacBook which has everything soldered or glued in. You clone your drive, which lets you at least do work on it if the drive fails.

If you replace the device with a new one you can do a perfect restore.

PCs might be different.

That's not nearly as true today as it used to be. Windows 10 and the Mac are both pretty awesome at finding what they need when booting into new hardware from something like a clone or a hard drive swap.
