My TV is downstairs and my internet hardware is upstairs.

My internet hardware is in my teenager's room because he said he needs hardwiring to the router or something like that. Can he still achieve that if I connect the router to the switch in the box? The box has no coax or available power near it at all.
You have coax coming into the modem, which goes to the router via Ethernet, right?

Assuming your son’s room has an Ethernet jack then run a cable from the router to that jack and then connect all the lines in the wiring cabinet together with a powered gigabit switch. Done.

Thanks. Do you have a switch that you recommend?

Just about anything popular is fine unless you are doing enterprise-level data transfers.

Personally I mostly use TP-Link or Netgear. Find the # of ports you need and round up. If you need 4, get an 8 port. If you need 9, go with a 12 or 16.

An 8 port goes for as low as $20-25 now, and a 16 port for around $50. Just make sure it physically fits.

You can activate the built in ethernet ports on your Gateway by using either a wired or wireless connection. Outlined below are the instructions to activate the built in ethernet ports on your Gateway.
