I have a bunch of files in my Icloud drive that I would like to transfer to my windows laptop. If it were just a file or two, I could attach them to an email and just send them to myself but there are too many for that. I thought I would be able to transfer them using the usb cable, but it only allows me to transfer photos and videos.
Thank you. I hadn't thought of this. I ended up logging into my icloud account via the web. I was able to download all the files I needed, and now feel very pleased.
When I did this I could select multiple files to download from the icloud account, but it wouldn't just save them all at once, I had to click something for each separate file. I had about 70 files, so it was quite repetitive to click the mouse each time.
In this case, I had saved a bunch of screenshots as Files rather than Photos. It wasn't until I attempted to get them off the iphone that I realized it was a mistake. I assumed I could transfer them over via usb like I do with photos.
I wonder why the Iphone lets you directly transfer photos/videos via usb but not anything in the Files folder? Any ideas on that? Perhaps the formatting is incompatible with a PC?
It is because you are living in Apple's walled garden and they don't want to allow you to do that. Some people don't mind this as it does make a very secure phone, but other people want to be able to manage everything on their phone and you can't on an iPhone.

If you had a Mac, it would be a piece of cake. That’s what Peregrine means about the “walled garden”. For a PC: In the files app you can move files or folders from the iPhone storage to iCloud Drive and then access them that way. Someone has to convince Apple that it’s in their interests to make it easier, but they probably never will change it.

I do understand that. I guess I just wonder why they allowed photos/videos easy transfer but nothing else. It would make more sense to me if everything was behind the wall, but given how much people use their phones for photos/videos, maybe they felt they had to allow those.
