Can you have more than one AppleID using the same email address? I think you cannot.

We are logged into the AppStore on an Ipad, but if we want to access the settings, it asks for the password but also 2-step verification. The 2-step part mentions some phone number we haven't had in ages so we couldn't get in there. I couldn't find a way to send the code to somewhere else.

It seems like 2-step verification was turned on by default.

If we need to do this I guess I would have to use someone else's Apple ID?

Call Apple and have them sort it out, otherwise you're not going to get around the 2FA requirement.

I believe AppleID's have to be unique. This is sometimes an issue if you got a new phone number and want to use that - but the previous owner of the number already has it as their AppleID. You'd have to opt for a username or email.

As KCZ mentioned - the easiest is to contact Apple support and see if they can help. This way, you can update your MFA to something current. And just remember to make these changes when your phone number/email changes.

Otherwise, there might be a 'workaround' by using plus addressing. Or, if using gmail, can intersperse periods or 'dots' in the same email to make it "new".
