1) What passes for customer service no longer exists at HP.
2) Their written material might be even worse.
3) Ended up at Apple to get a (5.1?) driver. All installed.
4) So, ... the print command gets the paper to come through... but nothing is on it.
que pasa? Thanks.
So, there is communication between the computer and the printer but it is not communicating properly.
Device drivers would be the first suspect in this situation assuming the printer is supported by the OS.
Also, MacOS has the drivers built in but sometimes people upgrade their OS and end up losing the support to a printer that was working with the earlier version.
So, upgrades are a double-edged sword.
As it happens I needed to move some cash around anyway but I used this experience
as the impetus to SELL the 114 shares of HPQ I still held onto;
and to make a solemn promise to never use (let alone buy) HP products ever again.
(my own purchases started with the deskjet)

All I can say is what a miserable state of affairs we are in as consumers with all the electronics. Half of the instructions I think are written by foreigners in English.

The HP M140 is part of the master scheme by HP to implement a print as a service model where you pay per pages printed and where they push their instant ink subscription on you. It is a scam IMO and there are class action lawsuits against them because it brings into question, who actually owns the printer. There is software on the M140 that will disable your ability to print if you are not using instant ink cartridges from HP. They can also disable your ability to print if you do not pay, etc.
To bypass this issue on this printer you can purchase after market printer cartridges and then call HP tech support and tell them what you are doing and they can do a screen sharing session, make some modifications to your PC and/or printer and you should be OK for a while.
For anyone who does not own the 140, obviously do not buy it.
I too am done with HP. They have turned into junk. Bought myself a Brother MFC-J4345DW Best printer I have ever owned
