Thanks for all the tips on the various "distros" of Linux. While I'm happy with Ubuntu and Xubuntu, I think I'll try Linux Mint next. Looks awesome compared to Ubuntu. Too much of the brown thing.

Thanks very much for recommending Linux Mint. I created the CD from the iso file and ran it on live cd.

You certainly did not exagerate. While I was happy with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu, I think I'll be moving on to Linux Mint. It's amazingly fast and very cool looking.

Any tips'links would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

to the OP:

i dont know if you already bought a PC but i highly recommend the asus eee pc. i already have a hacked navigon gps but i want bigger screen and watch TV on my gadget .. the ONLY 2 things my hacked gps DOES NOT have.. so i'm buying it.. and for the price... it is a good addition to my tech passion.. coz aside from putting these:

YouTube - GPS and TV Tuner on EeePC

i will also install a mac OS on it and voila i have a mac mini... or even linux..

and also coz... i am addicted to hacking... my gps has been hacked to the max.. so it is time to move on.. to bigger, and better.... screens...

Got a long rep comment for this post from someone looking for advice on the topic, so I thought it was time for an update.

A couple of years ago, my mother-in-law switched to an iPad, a Bluetooth keyboard, cable modem service and wifi. I wouldn't say she loves this setup, but she copes with it. She uses it for email and light surfing - probably 1% of its capability. The good thing is, it's a setup that is hard to break.
