I am on a tight budget but I need to buy a laptop. I don't want to buy a used one. I have $700 to spend maybe $900 if I cut some corners on other things. Can anyone recommend a good solid computer brand in my price range?
Also please list the model number if you know it.
I will use the computer for basic web search and email as well as updating my website. I will not be doing anything such as gaming or graphic design work. I will also add/load a bookkeeping software to the computer as well.

A client called me the other day and is looking for a laptop. He said he found two of interest. Toshiba and Dell at Best Buy. Toshiba $750, Dell $700 (I think it might have been $50 higher on each). Anyway the Dell specs I could get out of him:
3GB RAM
250GB drive
Intel graphics
R/W DVD CD
He said the sheet he had didn't list the CPU, but I figure he didn't know it when he saw it.
That didn't sound too tacky for the money, but the CPU bothers me.
Hang on.....
This is it. Should have done this earlier. Same unit, different colors. $750
Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor T5750; 3GB DDR2 memory; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; 15.4" widescreen; 250GB hard drive; built-in webcam; Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1
thanks my friend. I like the info from Best Buy. Based on your knowledge would you say this is a pretty good system to buy, for what I want to use if you?

My Toshiba laptop is quite a bit more modest than the ones Tek_Freek posted. I have 2gigs of RAM, a 40 gig HDD, and plain jane processor (compared to the dual core one he posted). I'm doing just fine with what I have.
But I'm also a big believer in getting the most hardware I can get for what I can spend. Things change.
Pick a Dell, HP or Toshiba and make sure you have at least 2GB of RAM and preferably a dual-core processor.
Beyond that, the choices are all pretty much personal choice on hard drive size, dvd drive, screen size, etc.
