Powerline Ethernet Adapters (modem, wireless, working, router)

Does anybody have any experience with these things?

My question is, Can i plug one adapter in the wall with a cat5 to my router intstead of a cat5 directly from the cable modem? Can you plug them into power strips or does it have to be directly into the wall?

I read on another forum that powerline ethernet does work, but it can be temperamental. There are variables that can impact its performance. The person in the other forum said the adapters usually can NOT be plugged into a filtered power strip or even into the same wall outlet that a filtered power strip is plugged into. In particular, if the power strip has "LC type filters," it will prevent them from working.

It sounded to me like it was more trouble than it was worth, so I stuck with wireless.

I have one that is plugged into a power adapter and it works fine. I don't use it for regular internet access, however. I use it for my Dish Network DVR to keep it connected to the internet and avoid the $5 per month fee for not being connected to a phone line.
