I'm using RCN right now, and the service is not that great. Could just be me though. Their cable television is fine though.

You could try posting this question in the Chicago forum. There was one thread discussing alternatives - RCN, AT&T DSL and U-Verse ... perhaps there are others.

AT&T is your next option problem is its fiber optic, so it may not be available in all parts of the city yet like cable is...

AT&T - I love it and hate it!

AT&T Houston ripped me off BIG Time! I paid $30/month for 3.o mbps download speeds and discovered late that I was getting only 1.5 mbps download speeds and they never fixed it or reimbursed me.

AT&T Chicago - I subscribed to their $35 / month 6Mbps download speed DSL and I'm getting a decent super fast internet at around 5.1 Mbps downloads... Make Netflix Instant Movies download at dvd quality!

Now AT&T is totally worth it because you can log into all the Wifi spots at Barnes & Noble and Starbucks around the nation! - Totally useful when you're traveling or on the go, - and I've used it for this! Now I can hangout, browse internet, and Skype at Barne & Noble if I want to!
