I have a Toshiba laptop and the screen is black. If you look -very- hard you can see the image. I have no spare parts to test with so I am curious if it is possible to determine whether or not it is the backlight or the inverter.

Any tips?

Not unless you have a spare inverter to test with, or a device specifically designed to test the CCFL tubes in the LCD panel. Chances are it's the backlighting in the LCD panel, I find they go much more than the inverter.

Yeah I had a feeling I'd need some spares.

Well I'm going to flip a coin and bet its the backlight, too.
