Hi,

Hope you can help me, my first posting in this computer section.

Just got a new laptop and it came with Vista. New to Vista, I've been using XP Pro on my desktop machine.

I noticed the laptop Vista includes a MS Virus program. But I want to use AVG Free version instead as I've been happy with it.

Can I download AVG and still have the MS Virus program running at the same time or must I disable the MS Virus program before I download the AVG Virus program? Worried about compatibility issues or messing up the new machine...

And if I do need to disable the MS Virus program, could you guide me in how to do that?

Many thanks...

What is "MS Virus program"? Do you mean Windows Defender? AVG Free will happily run along side Windows Defender but any other security software such as Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro, etc must be removed first.

Yes, I did mean 'Windows Defender" and now I too can run happily knowing that AVG can run alongside it...thanks very much for your help!

Windows Defender is not an antivirus app, it's a malware app, and not a very good one at that. If your AVG has included realtime malware protection, I's disable defender altogether.
