I've attempted to connect my new laptop to my wireless network at home and I receive the following error message: "Windows unable to connect to the selected network. The network may not longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again."

My laptop is literally sitting within 1 foot of my router and my network is showing on the laptop with full bars. I have my phone and Wii hooked up to my wireless network and I have had friends come over and connect their laptops fine.

When searching online the only solution I find is manually adding the network and that does not work.

Any suggestions?

I personally ran into this once and the laptop wireless was not turned on. Embarrassing to say the least.

It probably has some third party software trying to manage the wireless network. What brand is it?

Also make sure that your SSID is unique (ie not "Linksys") and your channel number isn't 6 or 11, the two most commonly used channels. I find channel 3 is rarely used. If you have encryption enabled, what kind? Try disabling it temporarily to see if you can connect without it. If you can, you've got an issue with the encryption settings.

I'm surprised anyone at best buy even knew what a service was.

How much did they charge you for that?

Maybe a connection is loose on your internal netcard. Pop it open and see if the two wires are plugged in correctly, or move it to another slot.
