Hey all,

I absolutely have no idea what it takes to get to choose the correct video card. I hear some aren't compatible with certain motherboards, and other things like that.

I actually don't do much on here, but I do play World of Warcraft a lot. I currently keep my settings low in order to keep my FPS high and keep my lag minimal.

Looking to spend no more than $100.

After I post my specs, if you could recommend me a video card that would be terrific. Also, if you don't mind, I'd actually like to know why that was recommended. (Maybe I'll learn something! )

Much appreciated. Look forward to responses!

I could be off on prices, you can check newegg.com as usual. They have the best sh8t

Off the top fo my head and assuming you want PCIE

Radeon Hd 4650 DDR3 50 bucks
Gefoce 9600 GT 75 bucks
Raden HD 4850 512mb 100 bucks

Dont expect anything great with these video cards though. You pay for what you get. In my opinion get a 9800GTX on newegg for around 130/140

Hmm, now keep in mind I just want to play WoW on high settings w/o any lag or drop in framerate. With the 9800GTX, would that be possible?

These ARE pretty simple to install, right? lol

You are going to have slowdown no matter what in wow because 1)its an internet based game and 2)just because you have a good video card does not mean your computer is any faster. But to answer your question the 9800GTX can run crysis on high settings with little to no frame rate loss. You will see a big improvement over your current video card yes.

As far as isntalling it, is it simple to install a spark plug to a mechanic yes. Is it simple for some housewife who knows nothing about cars to install a spark plug, probably not. I dont know how much you know about PCS so i cant answer that. I will tell you one thing, I dont have a full tower and the video card is large so it took some shoving and pushing to fit mine in. Next time im buying full tower case :P

Quick check of specs for a Dell Vostro says they all have a PCI-E slot. Some people with Vostro 200s said they had a problem switching from on-board video to a separate card, but the problem seemed to be fixed in later revs, and not appear at all on the 220.[/quote]

Tom's Hardware says that is the best choice for around a hundred bucks.

You probably want to go pretty modest with the video card. Your power supply is probably marginal, and you probably don't have all the extra power connectors that a really powerful graphics card requires. It's at least a concern, and you should investigate if you are going to buy a high-end video card.
