I love the snow, sun, fall of the leaves and don't even mind the rain so much. But I really don't care for the gray skies. Does anyone know if New London is as gray as Seattle? Thanks!

no, just the occasional cloudy day like anywhere else. there's plenty of sun otherwise. there's not a lot of snow however because of the warming effect of LI sound but the Fall is beautiful around CT in general. people actually come from other states to look at the foliage.

I've spent a ton of time in Seattle, there is no comparison. Seattle is a super city, but New London definitely has very fair weather in comparison.

While there's not a lot of snow compared to say upstate NY or northern New England, it's still significantly more compared to Seattle.

I live in Groton (right across the river) and it really isn't particularly overcast here. The longest strecthes of gray that you would encounter here would be during the winter and those are usually only a couple of days followed by perfectly crystal clear skies and crisp air. I don't have the exact statistics, (wavehunter knows this kind of stuff inside and out) but from what I've read, I believe Hartford gets more sunny days per year on average than SoCal, and Hartford isn't more than an hour from here so the statistics can't be too much different. It is a beautiful place, and the changing seasons all bring their own beauty.

It must be because of smog!

yeah, no way does Hartford get more sunny days than SoCal. SoCal is almost a desert.

The climates aren't even comparable.

Seattle has a marine west coast climate, while New London has a humid continental climate.

In Seattle, there is a lot of rain and/or mist, and the seasons are muted. New London has 4 full seasons, which means hotter summers, and colder, snowier winters than Seattle. It also means a lot more sunny days.

While this isn't indicative of every day here, yesterday my temporary teaching/tutoring job had an end of the year party at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. You have an expansive view of the Sound that looks like you're actually on the ocean (you can see Long Island in the distance, but barely, unlike where I live on the NY/CT line). Minus the mountains in the background, it was at least as beautiful as any day I can imagine in Seattle (and this park is in the middle of Bridgeport, not a rural area!). I imagine (since it's almost at the point where the Long Island Sound opens to the Atlantic) a similar park in New London on a day like yesterday would be even more stunning!

I believe "sunny days" is a statistic tracked by the NOAA. You may want to get on google and research in order to get a definitive answer to your question.
