Hi there
I'm from Chile (South America) and in a month I will be there in the LL.M program at UConn.

By the way, I'm married and have two wonderfull girls ... so we all are moving there.

I don't have any clue about services. Wich internet provider you suggest? or what about Cable TV?

Besides that, we will need mobile phones... any good and cheap plan that you might know? Please if you could give me some web pages to check around would be perfect!

Thanks !!!

Oh! Sorry that nobody responded. I can only tell you what we use. I don't know if there's better (or worse) out there, but all the below have worked well for us:

Cable TV and Internet service: Comcast

Phone service: Vonage (VoIP, hooks up to your internet)

Cell phone: Sprint

All internet providers are about the same in quality and price as far as i can tell. Cox, comcast, and at&t are the only choices i know of. Whatever internet provider your choose will probably what you get your phone and cable tv from as well because they all offer discount packages if you get all 3 together(internet/phone/tv)

Skel1977 has a good point about the bundling of all three (Internet, TV, and phone) -- it's cheaper that way, at least for the FIRST YEAR of service. Then it goes up. But anyway.

The reason we went with Vonage is because I make daily calls to Canada, and ALL long-distance calls were free with Vonage, no matter where you called. I do believe that Comcast now offers that free long-distance service as well, but if you'll be calling home (Chile), you'll want to check that out beforehand. If they don't include those calls in your standard charge, check with Vonage.

In my opinion with cable and Internet, it doesn't matter who you choose...the customer service with all the companies SUCK!!!

As far as mobile, I have used verizon and At&t in the past and both have been good for us, but if you are just looking for something cheap you could go with another smaller company.

I will check Comcast and Sprint, cause I will have an Skipe number from Chile (IP Number or something).

THanks DandJ!

I'm in West Hartford and I thought AT&T was available here. Or maybe that's just if you go with a satellite and get U-Verse?
