The week before the 4th. Which is great, that's later than last year. But it's bad, because it's starting later at night than it did last year too. This time, the first explosions began at 11:02PM.

Gotta love the neighbors. I hope they rot in hell.

Oh boy! Sorry they are so inconsiderate. I haven't really heard any in our neighborhood yet but watch I will head off to bed in a few minutes and then the action will start. Jay

I'm with you... dont know if you saw the thread I started but here's a neat trick for you.... create a letter and put the logo of your local police station in top left corner and then copy and paste the actual Law on fireworks.... Drop off in their mailbox... If they continue doing it, call the cops.

I still dont see the joy of hearing screamers or big bangs and watching sparks go onto trees and lawns. Just dont get it.

DPS: Fireworks - Illegal in Connecticut

Office of State Fire Marshal

Fireworks - Illegal in Connecticut

ALL FIREWORKS (with the exception of sparklers) ARE ILLEGAL in Connecticut and may NOT be sold, purchased or used, with the EXCEPTION of regulated fireworks displays by state licensed, professional pyrotechnicians at sites which have been approved by state and local officials. Fireworks are defined by law as "any combustible or explosive composition prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration or detonation." Novelties, and trick noise makers such as smoke bombs, party poppers and snappers and the "snake", and are banned by Connecticut General Statute 29-357.

Effective June 1, 2000, Public Act 00-198 allows any person who is sixteen years of age or older to buy, sell and use sparklers of not more than one hundred grams of pyrotechnic mixture which are non-explosive and non-aerial.

PA-06-177 added new subdivisions to CGS 29-357 relating to the some compounds that are prohibited in sparklers and fountians as well as adding a total pyrotechnic composition if more than one fountian is mounted on a common base. Public Act 06-177 also added Fountians to this category and provided definitions for 'sparklers' and 'fountians' that are found in CGS 29-356.

Larger so-called "fire crackers" are actually explosive devices which are banned by both state and federal law. They include M-80’s, M-100’s, M-250’s and larger, cherry bombs, quarter sticks, block busters and other similar devices. Possession of these devices is prohibited by Connecticut General Statute 29-348, Illegal Possession of Explosives; manufacture of these devices is prohibited by Connecticut General Statute 53-80a., Manufacture of Bombs. The only exceptions to the fireworks statute are paper caps which contain less than .025 grains of explosive material.

Transportation to Connecticut of fireworks which have been privately purchased out-of-state is illegal. The fine for violation of transportation regulations is not more than $1,000 for a first offense; persons found guilty of subsequent offenses will be fined not less than $1,000 and not more than $2,000, or imprisoned not more than six months, or both. If injury or death results from such violation, the fine shall be not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than ten years, or both. To order and purchase fireworks by mail is illegal in Connecticut.

Violation of CGS 29-357(d) calls for a fine of not more than $100 or a prison term of not more than 90 days or both; offering for sale, exposing for sale, or selling at retail or possessing with intent to sell a value exceeding $10,000 is a Class A misdemeanor.

The penalty for illegal possession of explosives, CGS 29-348, is a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment of not more than 10 years, or both for each offense.

Violation of CGS 53-80a (manufacture of bombs) is a Class B felony; if a fire caused by fireworks is determined to be arson, first degree (CGS 53a-111), it is a Class A felony; 53a-112 arson second degree, Class B felony; arson, third degree, Class C felony; or if such a fire is determined to be reckless burning, (53a-114), it is a Class D felony.

The only safe way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted at a state approved site by state-licensed pyro-technicians.

It doesn't exist, remember?

How about just having a conversation with them asking them to not make noise past the ordinance? Call it a compromise.

I...Just dont get it.
That much is painfully obvious.

I would think one would be more agahst at breaking the law by impersonating law enforcement than those "illegal" party poppers, snakes and snap caps.

They were M-80's or similar, and I don't know which neighbors they were. It was somewhere on the street behind me. They weren't even the pretty sparkly things that shoot up into the air. Just low-grade explosives. My -next door- neighbors I've already spoken to and so far they've complied with my request beautifully. My request was: please keep the fireworks for the weekend of the actual event, please don't do it immediately underneath the maple tree where it could catch on fire, and please don't aim it at my yard.

Reasonable requests, I think.

Someone on the block here shoots off fireworks round here at like 10:30 at night in July on the weekend. At least for me I am up till Midnight every night, but I can see where people can get annoyed.

I once dealt with people shooting off fireworks at 5:30 in the morning in March when I was a senior in college.

The Neighbor who does it up the street is the Fire Chief , he told me he smuggles them in form PA. Ontop of that he has always let his children shoot off the fireworks. I'll admit on the 4 of July its ok , but not on any other night. Like last night , he shot them off between 9:30-10:40pm and it was right during my shows. Now i'll admit that I might be overreacting , but they never clean up and my pets go up there.......and they shoot them off on school property next to a wooded area. I did call the FBI and ATF about this and they said ignore it , makes you wonder do they really do there jobs? Even after i showed them a picture of the pick up truck load of Fireworks... Oh well , i can only hope that he blows off one of his hands or fingers.

You know, when I was a kid in the 70s there'd be lots of fireworks the entire MONTH or two before the 4th. Now I hardly hear any.....and they're just as illegal in NY as CT.
