Lol, well it definitely has a sketchy feel in many areas. I would never buy property there. Just look at the crime rate, it's rather high for a suburb. And I dont recommend anyone raising a family in Manchester, when there are numerous better options.

I-84 between 8am to 9am and 5pm to 6pm can be bad. Basically I-84 goes: vernon/manchester/east hartford/hartford/west hartford. With that said Manchester to East Hartford is an EASY commute and you might now even use the interstate anyways. If you are working at Pratt it's really close to Buckland (Manchester).

West Hartford is great. You can find a one bedroom for $1100 but not as easily as you can in Manchester. Manchester is great...just live in one of the main apartment complexes near the Buckland Hills area and you'll have access to alot of restaurants, stores, etc. Not a lot of charm because it's pretty much ALL chain restaurants, but a nice area. For $1000 near the mall you can get a 1 bedroom with loft at the Pavilions, access to raquetball, tennis, b-ball, 2 swimming pools, central air, balconies, all front doors have breezeway access, etc.

Don't live in Hartford. Parking is expensive, lots of parts are roudy unsafe and Hartford is DEAD on weekend days. Nights there are bars, sure but you can go there on weekend nights...dont have to live there.
