My husband works in Norwalk, and we will be relocating there from Mass. At the moment, we are debating between a house in Bethel, or building in Newtown. We aren't locked into either of those choices - and a lot will depend on the cost of building. Right now we're in a 3400 sq. ft. house, and want to go a little larger.

I'm looking for which community would be best for children. How are the school systems in Bethel and Newtown? What area would be best for my husband's commute? Any other advice for the area?

Thanks!

If it's in your budget I would recommend towns like Westport and Ridgefield. It's a much better commute to Norwalk. Bethel schools are ok. Newtown schools are pretty good. I lived in Southbury and my neighbors commuted to Norwalk, although it was a bit of a drive (45 min.) Southbury schools were very good and it was a great community for a family. Good luck with your search.

I would definitely recommend Newtown over Bethel, especially based on schools.

On schools: Newtown

On easier commute to Norwalk: Bethel
Being more affordable: Bethel

Schools in Newtown generally perform better than Bethel on the Connecticut Academic Performance Test but Bethel still performs very well. you can find information on schools at the websites below:

I think either town is a good choice. Jay
