If you lived in Danbury you would each have drives of a little more than an hour, but there would be no public transit available (You could drive to Cheshire and pick up an express bus the rest of the way to Hartford).
But really long commutes for both of you would get tiring. One of you should either find a new job, or perhaps you could get a cheap apartment in Hartford and stay there during the work week.

Franklin Lakes is about 120 miles from Hartford. I suppose you could live halfway and each drive over an hour, but it is not something I would want to do on a daily basis. Like silli suggested Danbury is about the halfway point.

As for public transportation, it would be difficult and make the commute even longer. The public transportation system is just not set up to deal with a commute like that. In all honesty, one of you needs to change jobs. Jay

You can stay in Jersey but you'll have to use Amtrak Regional form Newark to get up Hartford and they have a small timetable. Its not that much for the fare , ranging form 20$ to 35$. You have book in advance or at the station to get the lowest fare. It takes 3hrs one way. But its doable , its just a long commute. Some days you'll have to switch at New Haven,CT for another Regional Train. Its not like its a very stressful commute. I know a few people who live in outside of Philly and take Amtrak each day to New York. The trains have big seats , plugs and mini tables for your electronics. The First train will have a cafe , there are bathrooms on the trains aswell so its not a terrible 3hrs. If your both making a decent amount of money i wouldn't move.

How about staying in NJ and commuting up via Amtrak which is only 3hrs one way. Its not the worst commute in the world. surprising alot ppl do it these days.
