Universities Don't Help By Accepting Ill-Prepared Students - Courant.com

Apparently this philosophy is not shared by Connecticut State University's campuses, which rewards poor academic performance by accepting and then remediating 55 percent to 60 percent of their students in English or math — a shocking and unacceptable percentage.

This tends to happen a lot, particularly with out of state students. A friend of mine from college scored 940 on the (then two test) SATs, but was accepted. She is from New Jersey. Skated by on a C-average and a lot of remedial classes, working just to get there. I dunno how she got in the door, except for the out-of-state tuition fees.

Plus we have a society where everyone needs to get a higher education, when that is far from the case. Many do deserve higher education, many others can be better served some other ways than college.

That "piece" is SO naive. College is a business. Plain and simple. Colleges and universities want their money, just like any other business. They'll accept anyone willing to pay!
