We are moving to CT from West Milford nj. We have narrowed our serach to either brookfield ct or new milford ct. Can anyone share information on schools and housing? our kids are in 4th and 10th grade. We are most likely going to rent or rent to own, just so we can get to know the areas first before we lock down with a mortgage. Any information on the areas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Both school districts are very good, performing above the state averages on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests. Brookfield schools appear to perform better though. You can find information on these schools at the links below. Jay

Used to live in Ct but it has been years. Still have family & dear friends up there. I personally always loved Brookfied, CT. Great shopping, good schools & close to everything. New Milford, CT has grown but the route in & out is still the same. A traffic mess. A lot of people moved there because housing is cheaper, but if you are going to rent, I would say Brookfield.

Actually, ConnDOT has extended the Route 7 bypass to the New Milford town line now and traffic is much less of an issue. Route 7 in New Milford was also recently widened which has helped too. Jay

I much prefer Brookfield over New Milford. IMHO Brookfield has the better school system by far.

I have family in Brookfield so I know some of the area, but New milford is cheaper, you get a lot more house for your money and although we are leaning towards renting, we would most likely but in the same town we rented in, just so that the kids do not have to switch schools....

IMHO stands for in my humble opinion. New Milford is much more affordable than Brookfield and homes are generally newer than what you could get in Brookfield. Since New Milford is the states largest size, in terms of square mileage, some parts may be very far to where you will be working and could be long bus rides to and home from school for your children.

If you can afford Brookfield, that is definately the way to go. School district is better. More "New England Charm" (If that really still exists anymore). MUCH better commute to everywhere.

Yes, Federal Road has lots of "New England Charm"!

Route 25 through the center of Brookfield is beautiful. What Brookfield is lacking as a walkable downtown, which would make it the complete package.

Brookfield over New Milford.
