No, actually I am pretty sure the building was still there until recently (maybe a year ago). It did not look like there was much wrong with it on the outside but apparently inside there was damage. Still I really think it could have been saved but the property as a fast food place was more valuable than the historic structure it replaced. Jay

Oh trust me, my supply house is off Exit 66 where I sit at the light looking at the lot at least once a month...and my inlaws live off Exit 64. It's been gone for a while. They didn't demo it for a Sonic...they demo'd it to cash out to the highest bidder due to all the new development going on around it.
I agree with you about the building. I'm not saying it was arson, I just find it funny that as soon as the hotel was mowed down for BJ's, HD went in up the street there was a fire...wait, moreover the only way an "historic" building can be removed is if it caught fire, and then the fire wasn't IMO to the point it was ashes...but they bulldozed that sucker without blinking and whipped up the "for sale" sign.
Things that make you go "hmmmmm"...
Edit: Holy crap, I just looked it up. It was over 3 years ago! June 17th, 2007! Man, time flys!
The main building was torn down a couple of years ago. My family had dinner there the week before the fire - we'd gone there many times over the past couple of decades. The floorboards creaked between rooms noticably enough that the party coming in behind us remarked about it and wondered if their feet were going to go through. The ceiling was dingy, it hadn't been kept up inside nearly as well as it could have been. Granted, it was an OLD building - almost 150 years old. The fire was in the attic and extended downward along the interior. The roof had a -huge- hole in it and most of the woodwork was completely ruined - partly because of the fire, and partly because of the water used to put the fire out. The outside was barely scathed but the inside was a wreck.
The museum outbuilding, which was an old train car, was removed over a year ago. The rest of the lot was cleared long before that.
Exactly.
My wife and I also used to eat at the Yankee Silversmith and enjoyed the food.
I do not think anyone tried to create a fire which one person thinks on this thread .
It was to far gone to rebuild.
Sonic had a Grand Opening Event this morning but I decided to sleep instead because it was 6 AM-9AM and they were giving out free slush samples and T-Shirts ,Decals etc.
I decided after a full work week .Just sleep in and relax.
I am sure they will have plenty of other events in the future .I hope they have a 50's Car theme one weekend with some of the Car clubs in the area. That would be Cool
We tried to eat there on Thursday, was told there was a 45-1hr wait just to get a carhop spot! No thanks, my kids would have eaten the van's upholstry by that point...we'll try again in a couple weeks.

You might have to wait a month thats how long it took me to try the ones down here. But NJ has a few Real Drives in Chains that are not as crowded except the shore ones.
Oooh, well in that case Whataburger smokes Sonic as does Cookout. Heck I'll take Hardees over Sonic.
You'll take Sonic and you'll like it, damnit.
