Wow, I didn't think there were any trailer parks in Fairfield County, let alone a town like Westport, I figured if at all maybe they'd be in Bridgeport or Danbury. I know that sounds biased but I had never seen them there or in adjacent Westchester County, NY and just figured it simply wasn't something you found in the NY metro area or something (perhaps heavy NIMBYism) as I have seen them in upstate NY and other parts of CT but even there to a lesser extent than in other parts of the country.

According to a Google search, there are two in White Plains, and one each in Post Chester, Ossining and Jefferson Valley.

I remember seeing one in Yorktown years ago, as well.

Interesting, the only one in Westchester I've ever seen was a very tiny one in Croton-on-Hudson I used to pass by back when I commuted to Peekskill. I guess they're small and they hide them well.......

They do; same with the ones I've seen in CT. And generally the ones I know of are actually pretty strict because they want to keep them nice. Personally I'm not a fan of them, but the ones I've seen are pretty well-kept and decent.

I had a friend in high school who lived in the one in Westport. It was nice as far as trailer parks go. His mother (single) chose to live there to give him the opportunities that the Westport school system offered, versus living in a regular home in a less expensive town. I guess it worked-- He graduated Staples High School, Western Connecticut State and is now a Doctor of Optometry. He has a nice home in Monroe, and his mom is still in the trailer park in Westport. I will admit its an odd place for a trailer park, but its nice for lower income people to have an option in a more expensive town.

Graduates from high schools all over CT go to WCSU, so I'm not sure exactly what you're saying "worked". I'd say "wow" if he graduated from Oxford or Stanford University. I graduated WCSU and I know many successful people with the degree that didn't go to Staples. My point is that if they went to Ansonia or West Haven and graduated from WCSU, it would probably be no different. On the other hand, I know grads from Staples and New Canaan that are dirtbags to this day. It's about the family, not the school.

I bet given that it's an opportunity to live in an "exclusive" town for a lot less that it's actually pretty hard to buy a unit in that trailer park (they're probably rarely up for sale for that matter).......

It's certainly possible. When driving by the one in Shelton (which is actually very nice), it seems like mostly elderly folks.

Right, so the same percentage of Staples graduates go on to higher education as graduates of Central high school in Bridgeport? Trumbull High has the same percentage of alumni who are physicians as Harding?

My point is that she sacrificed living in a larger home to live in a trailer park so her son could take advantage of the Westport School System. That is pretty good parenting yes, but there is a reason that Westport schools (and some other Fairfield County schools) are reputed to be among the best in the country.

I'm not sure what you are finding fault with here, but suffice it to say, my friend going to Staples in Westport (which he credits as the most formative experience of his life) gave him a much better educational start in life than he would have had at Central in Bridgeport, or even Ansonia or West Haven.

Good grief.
