Don't misunderstand me here, i'm not trying to be a cheerleader and gloss over the warts in city schools. I'm just looking to present some balance on the issue, as "we" have a tendency to cast the stink eye on school systems like Stamford. When i look at the residential real estate market in Stamford, it does make me wonder if our general viewpoint of their system might be a little off the mark. The home values in Stamford don't appear to have taken a greater percentage hit than neighboring communities, and you would have to think they should have based upon schools.

The main question that i generally have is, why are the values still so high in North Stamford? I've thought for awhile now that the values were excessive, but it appears that the market isn't agreeing with my philosophy on that. I'm not asking you directly to answer the question, it's just an oddity that i haven't been able to figure out and it has me puzzled.

LOL Yes I am a bit melodramatic - perhaps hasty, and perhaps off-topic. I did imply a linkage that isnt really there - the homicides were not part of the school. Yet, if the school administrators saw some risk in having a regularly scheduled football game that implies (to me) that some sort of crowd or scene is gathering at football games that I believe would not happen in New Canaan. Maybe I jumped to a conclusion...but if my son were playing in that game or just attending it, the idea that it was cancelled for fear of violence would make an impression on him that I'm not interested in making.

I really like living in Stamford. I like the diversity of people and I don't like the homogeneity of New Canaan. But I admit I see articles like that and get a little freaked out about the schools. That was really my point.

I agree that it's reasonable to expect a parent to be concerned for their children when they hear things like this, and i apologize if i came across as sarcastic.

The same could be said about sections of Norwalk...Cranberry, Silvermine, Rowayton.....

Brian McMahan High School has had a repututation for being rough and violent for over 30 years...it's nothing new.
