Of course I do live in California, but lets give it a shot..

1. You shopped for new school clothes at Sage-Allen or G. Fox

2. You can recite the entire Bill Savitt jingle (I still can)

3. You got stuck with season tickets for the Whalers when they left town!!

4. You dont give a rodent's behind about revitalizing Union Station or downtown, no one ever did.

5. You want a grinder, and it has nothing to do with a machine shop.

6. You huddled around the radio waiting to hear if Bob Steele announced
a snow day.

7. You got to be on the Ranger Andy show!!!

8. You lived in a nice neighborhood but it changed so your family moved to the suburbs in 1964.

9. The idea of a pineapple pizza makes you want to grab a gun.

10. You dreamed of living someplace more fun than Hartford!!!

Just havin' some fun. Dont flame me too hard !!

Wow, a lot of that is old school stuff.

Some updated items:

1. You were 2 when Front Street was proposed and you hope to stop by on your honeymoon...if it's finished.

2. You have no idea who Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is you are just glad Constitution Plaza is finally getting fixed up.

3. You consider the I91-84 interchange a mess but can't fathom having to get off the highway, navigate the city streets and get back on just to transition from one to the other.

4. You were born after Max Downtown opened...and can drive.

5. You think Real Art Ways is for old hippies trying to find their youth.

6. You wish the colt building would finally match the dome.

7. You met your wife at The Brickyard.

8. You still think the building was better suited as the Russian Lady.

9. You wonder why all the store signs in "Little Italy" are in Spanish.

10 You think Hartford is the poorest city in the country.

11. When traveling out of state you NEVER say you are from Hartford, but from your burb or village.

12. The butt ugly building is growing on you.

13. You wonder why out of town people laugh at the "tunnel" reference on I84

14. You've seen the Travelers sign change 3 times in less than a decade.

15. You have no idea what used to be where the convention and science center are.

LMAO!

I realize these aren't IN Hartford, but I've run into people who give me a blank look when I mention.....

1. The Hartford drive in and how I have a hard time with it being condos now.

2. When Lowe's and Outback, etc. on the Turnpike used to be just Roy Rogers and the movie theater.

LOL I used to go to audio competitions in the old Drive In.

I remember the "turnpike" when we used to cruise and drag race on it because CT Dragway was shut down. It was, ironically, done right in front of the current CT DMV building. LOL

You know someone is from Hartford if they

1. Remember the old G Fox building where Capital Community College is now.

2. Still refer to it as "New England's 'Rising' Star"

3. Have been to either Half Door, Scott's Jamaican Bakery (still haven't gone yet!) or one of the restaurants in Little Italy (i.e, Carbone's, Ficara's)

4. Remember the Whalers or went to a game

5. Attended an event at Civic Center when it was actually called that (I still call it that)

JViello,

Is Hartford's Little Italy more Italian and more notable than Highland Ave in Waterbury?

You know you are from Hartford;

1) During your lunch hour, you used to take the skywalk from CityPlace to the Civic Center Mall to shop at Luttgens Limited or have lunch at Chucks or Margaritaville,

2) You witness the implosion of the Hartford Hilton.

Now? No way. Overall, *I* don't think so but being that it's the capital city they went further making the "Little Italy" section with signs and such. I think Hartford would do itself well if they created a "Latin Quarter" neighborhood as there is a sizable Latino population and culture there now. Much more than Italian. The "Little Italy" thing IMO makes the city seem "has been" as most of it has moved out. Yes there are a handful of places and some hang on's but nothing like it used to be. I would say the same for Manhattan.

Just like Wtby they moved into the surrounding areas such as Wethersfield and Rocky Hill.

It's different from Wtby in that most of the Italians are Sicilian and most of the Italians in the West End are from the mainland. Different food and culture. I prefer Wtby...but then again, those are "my people" so I suppose I'm partial.
