I am looking at houses online and noticing such nice places in Stratford. Is it a nice place? Looking either there or in Milford...top end is $325K for a house.

Before we start discussing Stratford/Milford/etc., it's best to ask you where you and your SO will be working.

Stratford has some really nice areas - I don't know the town TOO well but I know Oronoque is nice. There are parts, however, where I wouldn't recommend you spend 300k on a home, but I don't know exactly where. It's a decent town to live, and it's in a great location.

General rule of thumb in Stratford is north of barnum is nicer than south of it. The further north the nicer. A few exceptions here and there (lordship).

Stratford is a nice working class town with many nice neighborhoods. Lordship, Paridise Green and Oronoque are very nice. ry to stay away from the Bridgeport side of town south of Route 1 though. Jay

I'll be working in Old Greenwich, so I've accepted the notion of a lengthy commute to achieve a house comparable to ours in Detroit area.

I think even in the affordable areas of CT (which does not include Milford and Stratford), you'll have a hard time finding a house comparable to yours in Detroit. $300k won't get you a house in lower Fairfield County - maybe a condo. It'll get you a modest house in Stratford, but you're looking at an hour + commute (before traffic).

How far is your office from the train station? If you can take the train to work, I highly recommend it, as 95 can be a nightmare.

If you're intending to drive during peak times, i'd strongly suggest that you rent before you buy. The commute on 95 between OG and Stratford or Milford would be absolutely hellish. 35/40 miles one-way probably doesn't sound bad, but trust me, it's a horrendous commute.

Stratford is a great place to live . My mother lives there and the school systems are good. I can't say that there is a bad place not to live. I would choose a place near your job or they wonderful houses even by the train station. Plus you have Bridgeport right next to you if you would like to go to a Dinner or bars for some drinks.

Hope this helps,

If school systems are important, I have to disagree that Stratford has "good" schools. I would say the schools are adequate... Around the state average for test scores I believe. The schools have had occasional urban problems.

Overall Stratford is an OK place to live. I would take Milford over Stratford, however.
