I think you would like Milford but I would also consider Southbury and Oxford as well. Milford has the conveniences you desire while Southbury and Oxford have the newer homes. Jay

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Trumbull. Trumbull shares a border with Shelton and has many lovely homes on nice pieces of property in your price range. Trumbull is also convenient to Bridgeport and Fairfield, both of which provide many amenities.

Since you've asked me not to share thourgh DM's with you renovating...

We both know Derby is not something I'd be interested in.

However, I'll just have to up my price range considerably to get what we were looking for - if we decide to make the move.

Everyone here has been so helpful and I really appreciate it. Renovating suggested I simply ask a realtor. NSS.
But until I have a grip on the area and decide if I even want to make the move, the last thing I want to do is bug a realtor and waste their time. Not to mention the countless emails I'll end up with for the next ten years.

Thank you everyone for your help. I really appreciated it!

First, if you think you're going to have to spend over 600k for a 3000 square foot house that doesn't need updating, you're wrong. We've told you that over and over but you seem to be stuck in your own mentality that for anything "decent" in CT, you're going to have to be a millionaire. If you're looking for a mansion with appliances plated in gold, then you won't find what you're looking for.

Second, it's very strange that you wouldn't consult a Realtor. If you're moving one third of the way across the country, a Realtor can offer a ton of help to you.

It sounds to me like you're trying to find every reason to NOT make the move. If you don't want to, don't. Simply put.

To the OP, there must be amenities or other "wants" that you haven't mentioned thus far. Otherwise, I would have to disagree with you that there aren't suitable properties under $600,000.

Additionally, describe the characteristics of Amherst. (It's been 24 years since I was last there, and that was just to view SUNY Buffalo's East Amherst campus.)

I think you are right Kidyankee. I've decided not to make the move. CT is beautiful, just not for me. Thank you all!

I'd check out Stratford if you're looking for walkable neighborhoods, stores and sidewalks.
