Thank you DandJ! I will check out the Hamden place...and see what is available to rent in that neck of the woods as well. I had seen John Gagnon's pet resort and wondered if anyone knows anything/had any good experiences with that as well.

Another thing I didn't really notice when I was there was a lot of grocery stores. or I just didn't know where to look. What are the best places to grocery shop- as far as chain grocery shopping? or are there not many chain grocery stores?

There is a large Stop & Shop Supermarket right on Dixwell Avenue (Route 10). There is also a Shoprite Supermarket on Dixwell. There use to be a Shaw's Supermarket on Dixwell as well but I know they closed all their store in Connecticut earlier this year. Not sure what if anything is there now. Jay

ShopRite took over the former space of Shaw's on Dixwell in Hamden.

There's also an Aldi's in Foxon, which isn't really convenient for weekly shopping but not bad if you're stocking up. There's also BJ's in North Haven for bulk stuff, and Expect Discounts in the same plaza (Universal Drive). Then if you're into decent butcher-style meats and italian specialty items, there's Ferarro's on Grand Avenue in Fair Haven.

Then, again in North Haven, there's CT Natural Foods - which is really just a huge HUGE produce store that has a small deli and home-made meals, and an italian specialty section. They have the best blood oranges when they're in season, and they always have these sickly insane ripe or near-ripe beefsteak tomatoes at very low prices (around $1.59 a pound, and each of these puppies weighs close to a pound).

John Gagnon's Pet resort in Colchester has a great reputation. But it's clear over on the other side of the state.

A similar type of facility, but closer, is Silver Trails Animal Inn in Westbrook. Still a good 45 -50 minutes or so from Hamden, but much, much closer than Colchester.

Dixwell Ave. in Hamden and the town of North Haven, adjacent to Hamden have every kind of shopping you could need, except for high end clothing stores and an enclosed mall.

Thank you guys for the doggy-day care info, it will be my first time to board him and so I want him to have a good first experience! I had googled the Gagnon place, but I guess I didn't do my mapping very well, for I didn't realize it was so far away. Thanks for the insider tips!

Do you know of any good dog parks in the NH or surrounding areas? Where the parks are fenced and able to let dogs off leashes?

Good lord, with the heat index here in DFW it was near about 110 degrees today, I sure am looking forward to the cooler weather!
I can't wait to visit in Late October, will the leaves still be changing? or will they all be gone by then???

Wont all be gone...just some trees...The Sugar Maple Trees are absolutley incredible...Bright Orange....But I'm hearing something about the colors not being bright this year because of the heat we had and little moisture...Havn't confirmed that.

But Usually by mid November all leaves are off the tree...and chances are we might see light snow in November this year..hope so.

There is a fenced dog park on Waite St.in Hamden. Waite St. is off Whitney Ave. Lots of dogs there I understand.

There is also a fenced dog park in Branford on Shore Dr. in the Short Beach area of town ( near the water )

I believe there is also a park in Milford, but maybe someone else knows more about it.

Fall foliage color peaks about October 21- 23 in this part of the state. You should be able to see some color if you come about then.
