"They envision a plan that could include retail shops, an upscale movie theater, walking and seating areas with benches, old-fashioned lighting and smaller-scale stores to complement Derby’s history and sense of community, according to O’Malley."

I see so much potential for Derby - great location and many well kept neighborhoods away from downtown and Rt 34. Once the area is redeveloped I predict that the small city will improve quickly and property values will skyrocket like they did in Shelton.

High school football used to be really big there.

What does that have to do with a facelift for the town?

Derby really gets no respect - KidYankee is right about the location - there is great potential.

IMO Derby also has some of the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants too.

I don't think I've ever dined in Derby - I'm guessing that you're not talking about the Dew Drop Inn. Which do you recommend?

LOL - not Dew Drop Inn. Roselands is the best pizza I've ever had. Also a little more upscale, the Twisted Vine is good, as is River Restaurant (not sure if they're still around though).

One thing that area needs however is better Asian food. There is the Asian Bistro in Shelton which is fantastic but I don't think there are any in Derby.

The Derby Neck Library is really a great library for kids. Next time we're there we'll have to try Roselands. I've heard good things about the Twisted Vine too.

Re, River Restaurant - Maybe you're talking about what is now the Lakeside? I think that's in Seymour.

Roselands also has fantastic shrimp fra diavolo.

I just checked and I believe the one in Seymour along the Housatonic was Riverside Restaurant. The River Restaurant was in downtown Derby until the mid-80's when an explosion leveled it; they have since moved to the plaza where Walmart is way in the corner. I'm not sure if they're still around though.
