Does anyone know what is being built in downtown Hartford near the tunnel? If you are going eastbound on 84 you can see the construction on the left hand side just before the tunnel.

I've been wondering the same thing myself...it's IIRC just behind Walnut street. Some pretty big steel going up.

Is that property owned by The Hartford?

You may be seeing the new Police Station or the demolition of the "Butt Ugly" building. Not sure which. Jay

Is that the area of Adriaen's Landing? Also they are taking the "butt ugly" building down around the same area...think they finished with that yesterday.

No, Adrian's Landing is where the Connecticut Convention Center is located by I-91 south of the Founders Bridge. It includes the convention center, Marriott Hotel, the Science Center and Front Street. It is getting close to full completion with only the final phase of Front Street remaining to be completed. Jay

Nope, not the butt ugly building, this is further set back and West. Coming East on 84 just before the tunnel you can see it. They gutted an old structure and are using the facade. Like I said, lot of steel going up...looks pretty big.

That's the new police headquarters. Previously a combination of empty land and some old, rundown stores.

The Hartford's land is on the south side of the freight track, where the old Connecticut General building used to be. They kept only the original structure on that lot. Eventually, The Hartford will build a large facility there.

Thanks for the info.

I should have known new contruction in Hartford right now would have to be tax payer funded. That's one Taj Mahal of a police headquarters! How's that mill rate doing?
