Hi everyone. I'm going to be visiting Stamford later this week and since I'll have some downtime being the first of my family to arrive, I'd like to walk around town a bit. The place where we're staying is near where Fairfield crosses I-95. I just wanted to know if I would be able to walk downtown and back without having to be extra cautious of my surroundings is all! I've never been to Connecticut so I have no idea.

I read a similar thread where someone was interested in moving to the area, and by the looks of it, Stamford is incredibly safe, but the thread is over 3 years old so I just want to double check. Thank you!

I personally hate any downtown but I have walked in downtown Stamford, its not bad...enjoy the walk...

If its at night I would always be cautious no matter what city its in. Are you going to go see a play? How about the Stamford Mall? Or maybe to the billiards? Or a cafe? Or maybe some shopping..

Take a walk towards High Ridge Road where there are stores you can shop further...a little hike but maybe worth it on a nice day. Go from Atlantic Street, to Hoyt Street, to Bedford Street and walk North...You'll love it.

Oh, just the daytime for sure. Basically just around the mall, I suppose. Nothing too terribly much, just something to keep me occupied.

Downtown Stamford is very safe. The mall is OK, but kind of boring. If it's nice out, take a walk along Bedford, Main, Atlantic and Summer Streets -- lots of restaurants, pubs, shops, etc.

I wouldn't worry about downtown Stamford. The area around dunkin' donuts on Main Street has a lot of loitering going on from some ex or current druggies who are headed to the methodone clinic 1 block up the street. I work in the building right next door and see it everyday. The several people who hang out there are sketchy but harmless for the most part. Other than that, downtown is extremely safe. There's a ton of new construction goin on and a lot of gentrification.
