We're moving from Missouri because I'll be a student at hartford Seminary, and we are still job searching there. Unfortunately our savings is small so my husband wants a place for no more than $600 a month, which I know basically assures us a dingy apt with roaches. The only consistent place on the Net where I can see info about apartments in our price range is intertown realty-----but it has had some pretty bad reviews on this site, including a lawsuit against it.

is there noone that will rent a clean, little apartment to two quiet people who just want a place to sleep for a while before they explore better options? Craigslist is so hit or miss. Wish I could cruise through the area and take down some numbers of independent landlords but I dont have that luxury.

Well you could come close, like 650 or 700 for a single.

Try Oxford St on the Hartford/West hartford line.

hartford apts/housing for rent classifieds "oxford st hartford" - craigslist

Basically yes you unreasonable to expect an apartment for 600 per month. That is way to low.

If you'll be a student at Hartford Seminary, why not check in with local churches and see if anyone has a large room (or mother-in-law suite, or basement apartment) to rent? You won't find $600/month via Craigslist et al., but there are word-of-mouth opportunities that might open up if you get in touch with the right people.
