I am a young professional that just took a job in Fairfield, CT and am looking to relocate from New York. I would prefer to live in a somewhat more urban area where there are things to do (such as a decent nightlife) and public transportation is available.

I was thinking of New Haven and was wondering what parts everyone might suggest. I don't make all that much money and am looking for a modestly priced apartment in a decent neighborhood (not the ghetto). I would appreciate any info on this as well as suggestions of other areas that might fit the bill.

Thanks

New Haven would be a great area for you. Lots of culture and nice areas around Yale. New Haven does have it's fair share of crime, and the safer areas of town tend to be around Albertus Magnus (East Rock), Westville and the area directly around Yale. You have MetroNorth available from Union Station to GC in about an hour and 45 minutes, nice beaches (Branford, Guilford, Madison have some of the best) and GREAT food (check out Wooster Street for Pepe's and Lucielle's next door for an excellent cannoli.

A friend of mine just moved to Cottage Street. It's a nice neighborhood, very quiet and is full of Yale students.

Nightlife in New Haven is pretty good. Bar, Alchemy, Black Bear are all good places on a Saturday night. Don't forget to go to Louis Lunch after getting out of the bars to eat one of the best burgers you will ever taste. It was invented right there (well, folks in Texas will disagree).

Oh yeah, if the rent seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Good luck. If you have anymore Qs, just ask.
