Hello, going to Marlborough, MA from Bridgeport on monday morning and wondering what should I take to get up to MA itself and beat traffic? 91 or 95? And what would be a better time to leave? Earliest I would like to leave is 6am, latest 9am.

Getting past hartford is my main worry with the morning traffic, thanks for any help.

Definitely do I-95 to I-395 all the way up to I-290 in Worcester and I-290 empties out to I-495 and your exits for Marlborough will be off that.

It's a much nicer drive.

395 is quiet compared to anywhere near Hartford. Just need to get past New Haven early enough either way. Might be a little longer, but you'll make up in speed avoiding traffic.

when i lived in Framingham, i did this route when returning home after the holidays (except for the 495 part - i took I90 directly home off of (i think) 290). very nice ride. though 84 is nice as well once you get past Hartford. it takes you right to the Mass pike from which you can also get onto 495.

I live in Bridgeport, what time do you think I should leave in the morning to beat the New Haven traffic? Would 6am be early enough?

Thanks for all the help so far!

I'd say you should be okay between 6-630. But, I agree with everyone else! Definitely take 395.

Yeah, 6 am would be early enough. I-95 north through New Haven isn't too bad in the morning, it's south bound that's always tied up over the Q-Bridge.

Almost anywhere you go in Mass is better and faster to take 91 then if your going east of 91 go 84 to the Mass Pike (90). The only exception to this rule is any town on the border of Rhode island in the Providence area(Attleboro for example) OR any Mass town east of Providence (Seekonk, New Bedford, Cape Cod), then its better to take 95. Of course thats just my opinion.

Another way to look at it: Take a look at the state in a road atlas and use 495 (the loop highway from the cape up to almost the NH/Mass border). Anything north (inside the loop) take 91, anything south (outside) or east of 495, take 95.

Of course there are some exceptions, if that town inside the loop is close to 95 (Bridgewater for example) then stay on 95. Marlboro is close enough to the Mass Pike and 84 so go 91 north to exit 29, then take 84 straight onto the Mass Pike east, and the exit for Marlboro is 11 or 11a I forgot which.
