I decided to change my occupation, and planning on becoming a CNA. Hopefully, that will get me out of the medium wage bracket, and will give me more choices. I will definitely check out the places that all of you recommend to live and work. I will be visiting CT for a week to give me a better idea.

Ever since the oil spill, we have lost a lot of tourists. Jobs are becoming limited here. Even though Florida is cheaper than Connecticut, people have a hard time surviving on min. wage here, as well. Florida is really not that great. At least the panhandle of Florida. As someone i once knew put it, "Florida is a cesspool". lol.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond. The info is very helpful. I understand that CT is very expensive and appreciate the concern. I am just ready to get out of this state and trying to figure out ways to live a decent life there.

CNA's make approximately $12-13 starting out, often much less. That's certainly better than minimum wage, but still doesn't put you in a "medium" wage bracket as far as salaries in Ct. go. And you would need training and certification to become a CNA. Good luck, though.

I've known some friends who became CNAs in CT; the wages are good and a lot of the programs are designed to get you into a hospital that will help you with continuing education toward your LPN. As an LPN you would make the medium wage bracket. If you're seriously considering the CNA track you should def. check out Meriden (Middlesex community college programs and middlesex hospital) in addition to new britain. You should make a point to visit the schools that have the program you need and look at the areas right around the school...that should help you decide.
