See my above post you reference, I updated it with the reason. In the middle of typing my post I got a long phone call I had to take and had accidently posted it without finishing it. In Fairfield County (unlike the rest of the state), it jumped pretty quickly from "just over a foot" to the 2 ft. + amounts (i.e. the 14" a spotter gave from Stamford vs. 26" in Ridgefield). Basically, the total given for Bridgeport/Sikorsky is less than their all-time snowfall (though still in the top 5 I believe). But I do think it's a rare snowstorm where clearly the place that by far got the most snowfall is much of CT (with adjacent central MA being close behind).

CT is being talked about everywhere after realizing we got the most snow...Although RI and MA might be up there too...Its snowing there now..

CT might see snowshowers from the outter bands of this storm moving away..

9am-9pm...12 hours...16 inches...Thats impressive...

One thing you need to watch out for: I was looking at my eaves and it looks like we might be getting some ice dams forming. This is the bane of people who live in deep snow country, like where I grew up.

Ice dams form when heat from your house melts the bottom layers of snow on the roof; the water runs down to the gutters. When the water runs past the part of the roof heated from the interior, it freezes again. When the snow on your roof is really deep, the ice at the edge of the roof or in the gutter builds up above the bottom of the roof level. Then the melting snow pools up and works its way backward under your shingles, and then it flows downward inside the walls. You'll find out when you see water coming down a window or into a closet that's against an outer wall. You can get a lot of water damage this way.

This is prevented in true snow country by metal roofs or a metal strip covering the lower 3 feet or so of the roof. It can also be prevented by electrically heated wires on the bottom of the roof and lining the gutters and downspouts, so that the water can get to the ground.

You can also buy roof rakes that can scrape snow off the roof.

Deep snow sucks. I can't wait to retire to the desert.

Including this evening's dusting, I can now proudly say that my house went over 30 inches of snow, within a 24-hour period.

With love from North Haven, Snow Capital of the State.

Whoa! That's just sick.

By the way, I hope you have a spare room -- Cambium will be moving in shortly.

I was in the same area just before you. My report driving south from Windsor at 11:15pm not a speck of snow. People driving normally. Hartford a few specks of snow.

At the Old Wethersfield exit (26?) snow really started to come down and people needed to reduce speeds on the high way. By time I hit Rocky Hill exit 23 snow covered the roads. That was the fastest accumulation I've ever seen. (it literally took 10 minutes to cover the roads)

Glad I didn't have to be on the roads much last nite.
