I have posted on the Maine forum about jobs/moving and I'm thinking now is the time to start searching. My DH and I make decent money (a bit under $100K altogether) but barely have any discretionary money left at the end of the month to move into savings because our essential costs are obscenely high. I can't even imagine how much harder life will be with the higher gas/income/sales taxes, and I certainly can't imagine how we'd ever be able to afford to buy property here. CT is going to hell in a hand basket if these taxes get approved.
It really sucks when you make that kind of dough and are forced to make a decision like this. Right now i'm sitting on Miami beach and soaking up the sun trying not to think about CT too much...we have a lot of planning in our future i'm afraid. JV is right; witrh a democrat controlled legislature, they're slobbering at the leash to institute these abhorrent increases. It boggles the effing mind...

I was just throwing it out there to the board. My wife is a nurse so she can find work pretty much anywhere, we would like to stay on the east coast so are exploring all options, my roommate in college was from Woonsocket, he said he liked it alot but I haven't researched job opportunities/housing prices in the providence area. Boston is another option for us, but I know that is expensive and Mass as a whole is no bargain either.

I know I was on a cruise last week and tried not to think about CT too much while I was away. Tough decisions will have to be made by many families here I'm afraid. We shall see. Interesting times, to say the least.

Jeeze man! I'm not a fan of the cost of living and politics in this state, but it's not hell. Relax and try to find the good things about living here, even while you're searching for a new place.

Plenty of snowcones to go around if you can't afford food!

I've visited RI a few times and like it as well as MA. MA is expensive of course, though.

JViello, I have the same question I had previously. What states are you considering? I ask because you obviously have done your homework. Why not back to Florida? And why don't you consider running for political office? (ha..ha.....but, seriously!)

Also, I don't know too much about "Muslim Socialism" (you have to be careful with Wikipedia sometimes), but I DO know a Muslim who works at IBM, makes decent money, and I can tell you after coming from a dictatorship, he DOES NOT want anyone taxing him anymore than they are already, and he doesn't want government involved in his life. Just an FYI....

This news is just one more thing that I needed to hear to get out of CT. I originally came from New York because CT was "cheaper" for us. But now, it's just as bad, worse actually, because I have a longer drive to work (more expensive) into NYC. It seems CT is living up to its reputation of being a state for the rich. I thought I would be able to move ahead, but it seems I was wrong. Plus winters are worse here with the woods all around, sticks staring at you for almost half the year. My house goes on the market soon. Anyone interested?? ha..ha..

This actually could be a good thing (forever the optimist) because it is forcing me to make a move that I know will be good for me!

I have enjoyed my years in CT, I think it is a great place to live, everything I want is here, can go to NYC in 2 hours, Boston in 1.5 hours, we have mountains, and the ocean relatively close, I love to fish so that's a plus. Good restaurants, good shopping, nice people.

Taxes and cost of living stink. Ct politicians will shake your hand and steal your wallet with the other hand. Especially the regime in their now. Is there better in another state? I sure hope so .

So, am I reading this correct that in CT, you only get a $500 credit TOTAL from your property taxes, and that it is zero if you make over $190K? Does anyone know how that compares to NY?

The more I keep reading about the two, the more I am seeing that NY may not be such a bad deal after all. At least we have Cuomo instead of Malloy..although I'd swap him for Christie in a heartbeat!

All politicians are stealing our wallets. But I seriously think that CT has more of a problem because it is the hedge fund capital of the country. These guys are super wealthy and have the politicians in their pockets. This state has become a tax shelter for these rich guys.
