I still wouldn't say Cheshire is unsafe. Usually horrible crimes like this aren't random, more likely they were targeted for some reason. How sad and tragic, it sickened me to hear about it. I can't imagine that poor man, his wife and kids were killed. How on earth do you recover from that?
This was terrible and no one knows yet what happened or why this family was chosen. I believe one of the men was a local and the other from out of town. It is so sad and tragic. I definitely would not say Cheshire is unsafe, but it does make you wonder if you are safe anywhere. Jay
Mrs. Petit (the mother) had Multiple Sclerosis.
She & her daughter volunteered their time raising awareness & money towards finding a cure.
I wonder if this family home had a security system?
I live in a "safe" neighborhood & during the day I leave the
front door open.
At night our house always ARMED w/the security system.
Would a security system have saved them?? a gun?
I don't know?
Just watched the news and I didn't realize what a giving, wonderful family the Petits are.
Cheshire is a safe community but JayCT is right, are you safe anywhere? I don't think a security system would have been helpful and feel the same way about a gun. If somebody wants to do something bad enough, they will.
Mr. Petit, their family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. What a tragedy.
And to compound the tragedy, a policeman friend of mine pointed out that murder is not one of the charges - some technicality involving arson. I hope he's wrong.
These were good people, my condolences and prayers go out to the victims and Dr. Petit.
